All around the world, in every language, throughout history, mankind has felt the liberation of donning a celebratory or fantastical outfit and interacting with others in that spirit.
Every year millions of people take part in so many events including the annual holidays like New Orleans’ Mardi Gras, all the world’s Carnival events and so many Halloween Parades along with a multitude of fests, faires, cons and so many wonderful, wild and weird activities,
And in our digital era, with everyone carrying cameras, the trend has been accelerating as these events allow people to put forth their best looks, to play with image and identity from the youngest trick or treater to so many adults who are increasingly realizing that costume and fashion themed events are incredibly fun and engaging, giving everyone more to talk about and connect while helping them develop their own creativity.
And now with so much tension in the world, Costume Culture offers a welcome respite. Environments dedicated to positive engagement, fun and creative expression. Places where it is easier to talk to people, make connections and to live in an alternative worlds both at the events but then in the imagery afterwards and, then, in preparation for the next event.
In this way these events create wonderful, long lasting communities where many find and grow their identities and friendship circles both on and offline well beyond their immediate neighborhoods. Costume Culture is an almost entirely good and positive global movement where there are many genres and events to explore…. DIVE IN!
